Traditional western medicine approaches to diabetes focus on a prescription medication, exercise, and a “healthy” diet. Diabetics can lose a lot of hope trying different diets, different medications, different doctors, different workout programs, without getting different results. Certainly, if there were a particular diet or pill that was working to heal diabetes, then all diabetics would be on it and getting great results, but this is not the case.
According to Dr. Hall, “We must look deeper at each individual to see what factors led to their disease. For example, we now know that certain foods you eat may cause an immune reaction which results in increased blood sugar. We know the air pollution and toxicity from the environment and our food can increase blood sugar. We know genetics and reduced ability to detoxify the body efficiently plays a role in developing diabetes. Subclinical infections and inflammation can be at the root of diabetes. These problems can all be found through proper testing and addressed in an individualized heal plan.”
In Functional Medicine, the key to addressing diabetes is to test an individual to find out why the dysfunction is occurring and to develop an individualized heal plan that addresses root causes and lifestyle factors. At Next Advanced Medicine, a functional medicine practice in Orange County, CA, we test each patient extensively to see which foods are causing problems with their blood sugar, thus we never see two patients on the same diet. Using a truly individualized approach, Next Advanced Medicine has reversed diabetes in hundreds of patients, who have walked away from this disease and their medications.
