Early on in human evolution, when we were generally struggling to stay alive, we faced lots of physical dangers. This created the basic stress responses in our brains that we still carry today, hundreds of thousands of years later. Years of running from giant animals and the breathing that accompanied that activity stuck with the human psyche as a pairing that equated ‘danger’ with quick, shallow breaths.
Today, when we’re anxious, we still take quick, shallow breaths from our upper chest – this type of breathing is a natural response to stress and sends signals through our body that danger is nearby, which stresses us out even more. Even if there’s no real physical threat, we all still experience these breathing patterns because the stress response hasn’t evolved to differentiate between various stressors. This is why it’s important to pay attention to how you’re breathing the next time you’re stressed, angry, or worried. Look down, is your chest moving up and down with every breath or is your stomach?
With diaphragmatic breathing, you’ll breathe from the belly instead of the chest, which promotes deeper breathing and provides a sense of calm and relaxation encouraging the body to unwind.
To practice, place your hand on your abdomen and push outward while inhaling. A few rounds of this and you’ll remind your body that you’re just fine, and not in any physical danger.

Like many of the best things in life- when it comes to animal protein, quality is more important than quantity. I highly recommend choosing the highest quality animal proteins that you can find and afford. Let us explore some of the key words to look for when choosing livestock animal proteins specifically and what the terminology on the labels mean.
Poultry, beef, lamb & pork are considered livestock animals. Look for options that have these keywords,” Organic & Pasture Raised” this is the highest standard farming practice for livestock. In addition, look for beef & lamb that says it is also grass fed (not grass finished). Organic livestock is produced by farmers who emphasize the use of renewable resources and the conservation of soil and water to enhance environmental quality for future generations. The current USDA organic standards define which livestock have the potential to be labeled organic and how they must be fed, housed, and managed. To be part of an organic program, livestock must meet the following criteria:
Produced with no genetic engineering, sewage sludge, or ionizing radiation
Managed organically in a way that conserves biodiversity and natural resources from the second day of its life
Fed 100% certified organic feed that may be supplemented with appropriate trace minerals and vitamins
Raised on certified organic land that meets the standards set for organic crop production
Allowed year-round access to the outdoors as the weather permits
Managed in accordance with the National List of Allowed and Prohibited Substances, which means that no antibiotics (this prevents the spread of antibiotic-resistant bacteria), added growth hormones, avian or mammalian byproducts, or other prohibited ingredients are that are typically utilized
Not only is organic livestock the healthiest option for your body, since it will have less toxins then conventionally raised varieties, it also produces a better taste. Organic options are the most sustainable choice for the preservation of our planet

Individuals with mold toxitcity and biotoxin illness require the attention of an experienced functional medicine practitioner.
Did you know that it only takes 24 hours for harmful molds to develop in a moisture-impaired environment?1 According to a study by the Federal Facilities Council, 43 percent of the buildings tested showed signs of water damage.2 That means in a single day, your home could potentially endanger you with the risk of mold toxicity and biotoxin illness.
Exposure to indoor mold can cause an individual to experience respiratory distress, such as coughing and wheezing. However, further research links mold illness and biotoxin illness to psychiatric symptoms (including depression and anxiety) and cognitive symptoms (including brain fog and memory loss). Some patients are misdiagnosed with a purely psychiatric or cognitive condition. As a result, they are prescribed medications that are not appropriate because biotoxin illness was not identified as the root cause of their symptoms.
But as with most illnesses, biotoxin illness doesn’t need to take over your life. Understanding what causes mold toxicity, learning to identify the symptoms, and seeking qualified treatment can help you conquer the debilitating effects of mold toxicity.
Understand the Cause of Mold Toxicity
Mold toxicity occurs when someone comes into contact with one of many “biotoxins.” These biotoxins are poisonous substances produced by living organisms, with some of the most prevalent being toxic mold spores.3
Since mold spores need moist environments to thrive, homes with a moisture problem are prime targets.4 Often due to small leaks, improper ventilation, or defective plumbing, water damage can occur with little awareness on the part of the occupants. An excess of moisture can result in dangerous fungi, bacteria actinomycetes, mycobacteria, mold spores, and endotoxins.
Environmental tests are available to measure the presence and levels of mold and mycotoxins in your home. Tests such as the ERMI and the HERTSME can provide information on the location and levels of mycotoxins.
Once the mold develops, it releases toxic spores (often called mycotoxins) to reproduce. People inhale or come into contact with them through flooring, surfaces, and food. Once inside your system, these toxic spores can cause widespread inflammation in the blood and tissue.5 When your immune system tries to reject the foreign entity, it can cause you to feel some of the above symptoms. Even worse, it can set in motion a chronic illness such as Alzheimer’s disease, type 2 diabetes, or autoimmunity.
Identify the Mold Toxicity Symptoms
A recent study indicates exposure to mold is responsible for 21 percent of asthma cases in the United States.6 When mold spores infiltrate the lungs, they cause common respiratory problems such as coughing and wheezing that resemble the effects of any other lung and sinus irritant (like pollen).
Interestingly, only 25 percent of the population is genetically vulnerable to mold toxicity.7 Their inability to fight off biotoxins means their weakened immune systems may suffer from symptoms for months, a year, or longer.8
However, you do not have to be genetically vulnerable to mold toxicity to be plagued by biotoxin illness. Anyone with exposure to biotoxins or mycotoxins can experience symptoms or develop a chronic health condition. Fortunately, there are tests to see if an individual is afflicted with mold toxicity. These evaluations include VCS (visual contrast sensitivity) testing, blood analysis, NeuroQuant (multidimensional MRI of the brain), and other tests to assess metabolic and cellular health.
Regardless of genetics, once mold debilitates the immune system, research indicates it may also produce mystery symptoms that physicians can’t explain.9 These manifestations include memory loss, insomnia, chronic fatigue, headaches, anxiety, depression, and confusion.
The effects go beyond causing mystery symptoms that often lead to misdiagnosis of the issue. Mold and biotoxin illness can also be the trigger incident to a chronic disease such as autoimmune disease (e.g., lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, and psoriasis), metabolic disease such as type 2 diabetes, and psychiatric conditions including ADHD, depression, and anxiety. For example, Next Advanced Medicine, is currently treating a family that resides in a home where mycotoxins exist.10 The family suffers from autoimmunity, cognitive decline, and cancer. They are all now being treated for biotoxin illness to address the root cause of all their conditions.
By making yourself aware of these psychiatric and physical symptoms, you can identify biotoxin illness before it escalates to unmanageable discomfort.
Seek Qualified Treatment
If you suspect you may be suffering from biotoxin illness or desire to get tested, find a functional medicine practitioner that specializes in treating mold illness. After a thorough evaluation, your functional medicine practitioner will create a detoxification protocol custom designed to address the root cause and biological imbalances caused by mold toxicity.
The first step is to reduce inflammatory foods that are high in processed sugar, sodium, and wheat flour.11 Introducing more fresh and organic foods—with proper hydration—into a diet will minimize the strain on the digestive system while strengthening the immune system.
The next step is to enlist dietary supplements, which help fight foreign biotoxins and enhance the body’s natural healing processes. Doctors may prescribe one or more of the following:
Liposomal vitamin C (with phosphatidylcholine and carnitine) to improve immune system functionality
Liposomal glutathione to help detox the blood
Omega 3 to help with internal inflammation
CoQ10 to bolster mitochondria and help kickstart the healing process
Binders such as cholestyramine (CSM) to help detoxify from the body
Finally, as with all illnesses, it’s essential to give the body plenty of time to rest. That means getting a solid seven to nine hours of sleep every night. Doing this will allow the body time to locate and fight the source of the illness.
Whether or not they’re aware of moisture in the home, everyone should be extra cautious of potential mold toxicity. By understanding the cause, identifying symptoms quickly, and choosing functional treatment options, we can overcome biotoxin illness.
WHY AN AIR PURIFIER IS SO IMPORTANT DURING COVID-19
Hi Everyone, Dr. Hall here again giving you a little true doc talk.
Today, I would like to share with you what I believe to be the number one cause of disease and the number 1 cause of weight gain; Now, I have been working with chronically ill patients for over 25 years, I have treated thousands of patients, I have worked diligently to take these ill patients and help steer them back to a state of health and vitality, and a life free of disease. This has been my life’s work and I can tell you with conviction that I believe the number one cause of these illnesses is coming from the massive amount of toxins from our environment and our food.
Statistically, we are now at the point where one in every 2 males in the United States will be diagnosed with cancer and women are right behind them. More than 100 million Americans have diabetes or prediabetes. 23.5 million Americans are diagnosed with autoimmunity and 3 out of every 10 seniors are being diagnosed with Dementia!
No one, not even the EPA knows how many chemicals are in our environment, We do know that the EPA has a list of more than 85,000 chemicals listed on its inventory of substances that fall under the Toxic Substance Control Act (TSCA). Out of the 85,000 chemicals that have been introduced into our environment since the industrial revolution, less than 300 have been tested for safety.
Studies have detected 287 chemicals in the umbilical cord blood of American babies. 180 are known to cause cancer in humans or animals, 217 are toxic to the brain and nervous system, and 208 cause birth defects or abnormal development in animal tests. If this is in the umbilical cord blood of an infant, what must be the toxic accumulation sitting in the blood supply of an American adult?
The biggest problem is many of these toxins are not just next to impossible to get out of our landfills, some of them are even harder to get out of our bodies.
We are all at risk from increasing chemical exposure; from the shampoo, lotion, makeup, soap and hairspray we use on our bodies, to plastic bottles and bags, the off-gassing of our flooring, cars, and carpets, the chemically-laden cleaning supplies and laundry detergents, the water from our taps, and the air we breathe.
Even the dust in our homes is full of synthetic chemicals and fire retardants. Did you know the air in our homes can be 5 times more polluted than the air outside? Modest estimates have suggested that collectively we are exposed to more than 700,000 different toxic chemicals on a daily basis, and I haven’t even mentioned what is in our food supply!
Do yourself a favor and open up your house. Get some fresh air moving through it and invest in some air purifiers. A good air purifier will not just take out toxins and impurities from the air but will get rid of microscopic viruses and bacteria. I have had all 4 of our air purifiers running 24/7 during the pandemic. My favorite air purifiers are from a company called Triad AER. I always keep my unit in PCO or normal mode because in the high mode it makes ozone. Ozone can be good for a lot of things but breathing it is not one of them. So again, I keep mine in normal or PCO mode.
You may be sabotaging your sleep without knowing it! Think about your current sleep routine. I’d be willing to bet you’re like most people and that your nighttime routine involves at least one digital device.
While scrolling through your social media or watching your favorite show may seem harmless enough, numerous studies have found the blue light emitted from these devices can keep us from getting a good night’s rest.
We all operate off an internal clock known as circadian (Sur-KAY-dee-un) rhythms. Researchers have known for a long time that light disrupts our internal clock and thus natural sleep cycles. Blue light from electronics is particularly worrisome. The blue light emissions from electronic devices affected how much melatonin is released. This is a critical sleep-regulating hormone. Studies reveal people using screens that emit blue light don’t make as much melatonin.
Recommendations suggest avoiding blue light exposure for at least 2 hours before sleep. This may be difficult if your nighttime routine solely involves electronic devices. The good news is that many manufacturers are heeding scientific findings and offer alternatives to the blue light.
Apple Users Apple’s “night shift” mode (for iOS versions 9.3 and higher) can be accessed from the settings menu under “display and brightness,” and it’s simple to set a schedule for automatic engagement during the hours you use your device before bedtime.
Android Users Activating this feature can be accomplished by downloading the “Night Mode Enabler” third party app from the Google Play store.
Research your other device makers to find out if they offer any light alternatives. The best option is to avoid your electronic devices before bed, but for those of you dependent on your nightly social media fix, the next best option is to reduce blue light exposure.

Dr. Zach Bush, M.D. is one of the few triple board certified physicians in the world. I have been waiting to hear his opinion on Covid-19, and here it is! Enjoy this fascinating interview with one of the most respected doctors of our time.
There has been mixed information floating around not only on the internet but on the news. Many doctors like myself and many of my esteemed colleagues find ourselves perplexed by the decisions being made and the information being disseminated by our government officials and that of the CDC and WHO. I will continue to put links on this website and our Facebook page that seem to match the research we are seeing on Pubmed.
One of the doctors that I have followed for many years is Dr. Zach Bush. Dr. Bush is one of the few triple board-certified physicians in the world and is often referred to as the “Einstein of medicine” among many of us in the functional medicine world. I have referred to some of his groundbreaking research in a couple of my books. I have been keeping my eye out to see what his opinions were on the current virus. Another doctor sent this interview to me recently. His explanations about what is really happening with this virus and the actions we need to take have made more sense than anything I have seen so far.
I hope you find the interview to be helpful in clarifying the current situation as it relates to your health.
